I am a philosopher. Primarily, I study the metaphysics and biology of death and brain death, as well as the moral implications of contemporary death determination practices. More broadly, I am interested in the intersecting nature of life, mind, and morality.
I teach bioethics and social medicine at Florida State University College of Medicine, where I am Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine.
I am also active with Food Not Bombs, an organization based on the fundamental idea that food is a right not a privilege. We share free vegan food while protesting the violence of poverty, war, racism, and all other forms of oppression and exploitation. We practice solidarity, not charity.
